Many people were feared dead, and an unknown number have been kidnapped after unknown gunmen opened fire at lodges around the Total petrol station in Oko, Anambra State
Reports reveal that the attack began on Thursday evening, June 19.
Federal Polytechnic Oko students who filmed the attack from their lodge captured two cars that the gunmen arrived in. The students are heard expressing fears for their lives.
Videos shared online show some people who had been shot lying in their own blood. While some were dead, others writhed in agony, but no one could risk venturing into the chaos outside to get them medical help as the shooting continued for hours.
Unconfirmed reports claim some lecturers were among those kidnapped.

As to what led to the shooting, it is alleged that it might be connected to another checkpoint being mounted around Total petrol station by the operation Udo Ga Achi security outfit. Reports claim tension began after the checkpoint was put up in addition to other checkpoints close by.
It was not clarified how anger over the checkpoint resulted in an attack. The people responsible for the attack are also not known.
Meanwhile, Nigerian Afrobeats star Iyanya has dedicated a song to victims of the Yelewata massacre in Benue State.
The killings in Benue trended after over 200 people were reportedly massacred in Yelewata in the Guma Local Government Area of the state.
Reacting in a song, Iyanya condoled with Benue people and prayed for divine intervention.
He urged the victims to continue believing in God even in this trying time, stressing that he can turn their sorrows to joy.
Sharing the video via X, he captioned it, “We are praying for the people of Benue.”
He said, “I want to dedicate this song to all people of Benue State. It’s trying time for the whole country because we all share your pain.
“I pray God comforts everybody who lost a friend or brother, mother, father, family member. God will intervene.”
