Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Denied Bail Despite Charges Dropped

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been denied bail by a judge despite the charges that were recently dropped.

The 55-year-old was charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution after he was arrested last September—he denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty.

Court hearings began in New York in May, with his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, and fellow rapper Kid Cudi among those taking the stand over the last few weeks.

After six weeks of testimony, the jury began their deliberations and unanimously reached a verdict.

Combs was found not guilty on counts one and two, the alleged racketeering conspiracy and the alleged sex trafficking of Casandra Ventura.

He was found guilty on count three, the Mann Act Transportation ofVentura.

The rapper was also found guilty of Count 5, the Mann Act transportation of his former girlfriend Jane.

However, he was found not guilty of Count 4, the alleged sex trafficking of her.

Combs was arrested on September 16, 2024, and initially charged with three offences: racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Two extra counts of the latter two offenses were added in April, bringing the total to five.

Following the verdict on Wednesday afternoon, Combs’ lawyers and the prosecution made submissions on whether to release him on bail until his sentencing or keep him behind bars.

Judge Arun Subramanian, who is presiding over the case, stated that he wanted to read letters from both sides before making his decision regarding bail.

When explaining his decision, he said the defense had not cleared the bar to warrant Coombs’ detention being lifted, also citing the rapper’s history of violence.

Combs’ legal team had proposed a bail package including a $1,000,000 bond, travel restrictions, surrendering his passport, and drug testing.

In their letter, they rejected the government’s depiction of the rapper as a ‘monster.’

They added, ‘It would be unjust to detain him even one day longer.’

The prosecution said he posed a ‘real risk’ if he were to be released.

Meanwhile, Ventura’s lawyer Douglas H. Wigdor also said that she believed that if he was released, Combs was ‘likely to pose a danger to the victims who testified in this case, including herself, as well as the community’.

Prosecutor Maurene Comey said the government will seek a 20-year maximum for Combs. He will be sentenced on October 3.
