FG Declares Tuesday As Public Holiday In Honor Of Late Muhammadu Buhari

In remembrance of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, the federal government has proclaimed Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday.

Buhari passed away on Sunday in a London, UK, clinic.

The public holiday follows President Bola Tinubu’s earlier declaration of seven days of national mourning.

Also Nigerian flags at the Aso rock could be seen laying low in honor of the former President

Currently, Vice President Shettima is in the Uk to commemorate with the family

and also escort the former President’s body home

This was further revealed in a statement issued Monday by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo via the ministry’s permanent secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo said the holiday is a gesture of respect for Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and development.

President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity,

and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation,” the minister said.

This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld.”

Tunji-Ojo further asked Nigerians to use the day to promote peace, patriotism, and national unity in line with Buhari’s vision.
