A day after Israel launched a devastating surprise attack on Iranian nuclear and military sites, killing several top generals, Israel’s defense minister threatened that “Tehran will burn” if Iran continued firing missiles.
According to Israel’s military, nine senior scientists and experts involved in Iran’s nuclear program were also killed in the strikes.
Iran’s ambassador to the U.N. reported that over 320 people were injured and 78 people were killed.
In response, Iran launched waves of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel,
causing buildings to tremble and night skies over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to light up with explosions.
The Israeli military urged civilians, already rattled by 20 months of war in Gaza
sparked by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, to head to shelter for hours.
Health officials said three people were killed and dozens wounded.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said Iran will pay a heavy price for harming Israeli citizens.
“If (Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali) Khamenei continues to fire missiles at the Israeli home front — Tehran will burn,” Katz said.
While urging Iranians to rebel against their leaders, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Friday
that his goal was to eradicate any Iranian threat to Israel.
Furthermore, Israel’s attack cast doubt on whether the U.S. and Iran would move forward
with their sixth round of indirect talks over Iran’s nuclear program,
which were set to take place in Oman on Sunday.
Following the Israeli strikes, Iran’s top diplomat declared on Saturday that the talks were “unjustifiable,”
most likely indicating that there would be no talks with Washington this weekend.
They did not however specify whether the talks were canceled, though.
