“Ngwo gwo gwo” Crooner, Mike Ejeagha D!es At 95

Renown Highlife music legend, Mike Ejeagha has passed on at the age of 95.

The musical icon was known to inject proverbs into his songs, making them more interesting to listen to

According to online reports, Ejeagha died on Friday night at about 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu after a protracted illness.

His passing was confirmed by his eldest son, Emma Ejeagha.

Born on April 4, 1930, Mike Ejeagha launched his music career in the mid-20th century

and significantly influenced the evolution of music in the Igbo language for over six decades.

He gained widespread fame after he was invited by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)

as a guest presenter for an Igbo program, ‘Akuko N Egwu’, in 1972.

In recent times, this generation also got to hear about Pa Mike Ejeagha,

after popular comedian Brain Jotter, used his viral song “Ngwo gwo gwo” in an online challenge

The challenge which spread like wild fire led to Brainjotter visiting Ejeagha

and gifting him with some cash gift

Also Many well meaning Nigerians also paid curtesy to the singer in His home in Enugu

Fortunately the “Ngwo gwo gwo” track became one of the most streamed that period

But we did however hear that due to the contract he signed,

the proceeds of the song will go instead to his record label and not him

Pa Mike Ejeagha is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

His impact was felt while he was alive, and he will surely be missed
