Kylian Mbappe, the forward for Real Madrid, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday due to a severe case of gastroenteritis, the Spanish team announced.
Due to a fever, World Cup champion Mbappe was unable to play in Madrid’s opening match against Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal in Miami on Wednesday.
The France international should be available for Sunday’s match against Pachuca, according to coach Xabi Alonso.
However, his hospitalization raises questions about what role he could play in the US tournament, which lasts for a month.
Real Madrid said Mbappe would “undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment.”
