Grammy award winning singer, Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, has become the first African performer to appear at the FIFA Club World Cup Final Halftime Show.
The performance took place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday,
where she shared the stage with American rapper Doja Cat and Colombian star J Balvin.
The show was curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and staged above the stands to protect the pitch.
Furthermore, Global Citizen, the event’s co-producer, and FIFA announced Tems as the show’s main attraction.
Football and music fans from all around the world watched keenly as the singer performed her popular track, Love me Jeje
Tems is also known for songs like “Essence,” “Free Mind,” and her most recent album, “Born in the Wild.”

Tems now joins an exclusive list of global stars like Shakira and Jennifer Lopez who have performed on the FIFA stage.
This milestone adds to her growing list of international achievements.
Recall that She also recently became the first Nigerian female artiste to debut at the Met Gala
and has been featured on soundtracks for major Hollywood films.
Meanwhile, Social media has been flooded with praise from fans and fellow celebrities,
hailing the moment as “a win for Nigeria” and “proof that Tems is in a league of her own.”
Though Tems is yet release an official statement, but her team shared behind-the-scenes photos of and soundcheck on Instagram,
further captioning them with, “History loading…”
The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 took place in the United States, with
top clubs from around the world battling for the ultimate prize in global club football.
The event had several high-profile guests in attendance, including U.S. President Donald Trump.
